Prof. Muhammadu Tajudeen Salaudeen is a Crop Protection (Virology) specialist in the Department of Crop Production. He obtained a B. Agric. Tech (First Class) from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, M. Sc. Crop Protection from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and Ph.D. Plant Pathology from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan. He was employed as an Assistant Lecturer in 2004 and promoted to Professor in 2020. He teaches Crop Protection and Biometric courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has successfully supervised six Ph.D. students and currently has nine others. He was appointed Head of the Department of Crop Production from October 2015 to November 2019. Prof Salaudeen has over 70 publications and has attended several National and International Conferences. He is a manuscript reviewer for reputable Journals across the globe. He has been a Consultant and Visiting Scientist at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Ibadan. He is an Adjunct Professor at Chandigarh University, India. In 2014, he won a grant sponsored by The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) to investigate “Maize Lethal Necrosis Disease: in West Africa. In 2018, he was part of the team that won the “Africa Centre of Excellence for Mycotoxins and Food Safety” grant sponsored by the World Bank. His current project is on the “Development of an Artificial Intelligence-Based Autonomous Robotic System for Weed Control” His areas of research interest are surveillance on the epidemiology of plant viruses, identification of weed hosts of plant viruses, and screening crops for virus resistance.
