 Professor James Isiwu Aguwa was born on 25^th August, 1960 by Mr. Ugwoke Aguwa and Mrs. Odobo Aguwa, in Akwashi, Ohodo in Igbo-Etiti LGA of Enugu State. He obtained B. Eng. in Civil Engineering in June 1985, from Anambra State University of Technology Enugu (ASUTECH), now ESUT, M. Eng. in Civil Engineering from Federal University of Technology Minna, in April, 2000 and PhD in Civil/Structures from FUT Minna in October 2010. He is a Registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Corporate Member Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), Member Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineer (MNICE) and Life Member American Society of Civil Engineers (MASCE).

Professor James Isiwu Aguwa joined Federal University of Technology, Minna on 1^st August, 2005 as a Lecturer II and was appointed a Full Professor of Civil Engineering in October, 2017. He has supervised 7 PhD theses, 30 M. Eng. Dissertations, over 200 B. Eng. projects and many ongoing research projects. He has held various positions in Federal University of Technology Minna such as Sub-Dean School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET), Level Adviser, Staff Adviser for NICESA and NUESA, Turnitin Officer for Civil Engineering Department, Member of various Committees, Internal Examiner for PhD and Masters Degrees and above all Member of Senate of the University.

 Professor is an excellent researcher has published over 65 research papers in National and International reputable Journals. He is the Sole Author of the book, The Nigerian Timber Structures, which is widely used by students of civil engineering, building technology and architecture in most Nigerian Universities and Polytechnics. He is a reviewer to many National and International journals. He has travelled worldwide for engineering conferences, technical visits and tours.

Professor James Isiwu Aguwa is also External Examiner for Undergraduate, Master and PhD Programmes in other Universities in Nigeria. He is a Visiting Professor in Civil Engineering Department, Nile University of Nigeria Abuja. He has been involved in many academic services such as Resource Person for NUC, COREN and NBTE for Accreditation of Programmes in Universities and Polytechnics.

Professor Aguwa’s Areas of research are in Structural Reliability Studies, Structural Safety and Prediction with emphasis on locally available structural materials such as timber. He is determined to take part and contribute effectively to the preparation of Nigerian Code of Practice in Engineering. Characterisation and grading of numerous unknown timber species in Nigeria for structural purposes as a way of increasing the local content in engineering practice in Nigeria.

Research Area
