About Dr Lanre Olatomiwa

Dr. Lanre Olatomiwa is a renewable energy systems expert with a passion for providing practical developmental solutions to improving electricity access in the rural areas of developing countries with a particular focus on healthcare applications using interdisciplinary approaches such as; end-user engagement, quantitative and qualitative methods, techno-economic analysis, sustainability and stakeholder analysis. Currently, he is working on demand-side management strategies for optimal design and sizing of hybrid renewable energy systems in off-grid rural healthcare centre in Nigeria.

Dr. Lanre Olatomiwa received Bachelor (BEng) and Masters (MEng) degree in Electrical Engineering both from Federal University of Technology, Minna Nigeria in 2006 and 2012 with First class and Distinction respectively. He obtained PhD degree in renewable energy specialization, under the Bright Spark Scholarship of the University of Malaya, Malaysia in 2016. He is a recipient of many awards (both at international and National level), these includes;  Commonwealth Rutherford Fellowship― a prestigious fellowship awarded by UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) through the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom; Vice-Chancellor’s Commendations and Award for Distinguished Accomplishments in Outstanding Scholarly Publications and Wining International Fellowships (Top 10 Ranked Staff in Publications in SCOPUS Indexed Journals Based on Q1 publications, Top 10 Ranked Staff in Publications in SCOPUS Indexed Journals Based on H-Index,  Top 10 Ranked Staff in Publications in SCOPUS Indexed Journals Based on Number of Citations and Certificate of Award for Researcher with more than 1000 Google Citation).

He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Federal University of Technology, Minna Nigeria, and currently a visiting Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering Science, University of Johannesburg, South Africa, a Research associate at the Center for Renewable Energy System Technology (CREST), Loughborough University, United Kingdom, and also a  research advisor at Nan- Yang Academy of Sciences (NAS), Singapore.

He is a certified Engineer registered with the Council for The Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), a Corporate Member of The Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), a Member of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and also a Registered Member of Experts Peer Reviewers for Italian Scientific Evaluation (REPRISE)― a register maintained by Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR), Italy.

His research interests include; hybrid renewable energy systems, energy management in hybrid systems, Demand Side management, rural healthcare power development and optimization techniques for renewable energy (RE) integration. He has authored/co-authored over 40 refereed journal/conference papers in reputable ISI/WoS-indexed journals and international conferences.  And some of his papers have won best paper awards and received several citations (over 3,000 citations, and 20 h-index). 

Dr Olatomiwa serves as a reviewer for many reputable ISI/WoS- indexed journals in the field of renewable energy, including Applied Energy (Elsevier), Solar Energy (Elsevier), Hydrogen Energy (Elsevier), Energy Storage(Elsevier), Energy Conversion & Management (Elsevier),  Sustainable Energy Technologies and Assessments (Elsevier), Renewable Energy Focus (Elsevier), Renewable & Sustainable Energy Review (Elsevier), Sustainable Production and Consumption (Elsevier), International Journal of Energy Research (Wiley & Son), Energy Efficiency (Springer), IET Renewable Energy Generation etc.
