Dr. Oluwafemi Adebayo Oyewole

Dr Oluwafemi Adebayo Oyewole received his BTech (2004) and MTech (2010) Degrees in Microbiology, from Federal University of Technology Minna. He had his PhD in Environmental Microbiology (2016) from University of Portsmouth UK. The focus of his PhD was the purification and functional study of compounds produced by Escherichia coli that influence sulphate reducing bacterial growth. He is a currently a Senior Lecturer in Department of Microbiology, Federal University of Technology Minna. His current roles include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students and research supervision in the areas of Environmental, Productive and Applied Microbiology. He has been involved in several administrative responsibilities and in community development activities. He has over 100 research publications and filed in 3 researches for Patents.
Research Area
My research area is in the aspects of Environmental Microbiology, Bioproducts Development and Applied Microbiology. Some of my recent research include
- biocalcification of concretes using bacterial products
- bioconversion of plastic waste to polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) using engineered bacteria
- bioremediation, phycoremediation and phytoremediation of contaminated soil, water and wastewater
- detection and biosorption of heavy metals in soil and water
- microbial conversion of agrowastes for methionine, lactic acid, PHA, and citric acid production
- development of microbial-flocculants for water purification
- inhibition of dissimilatory sulphite reductase in SRB for corrosion prevention
