Mrs. Obi-George Lilian Chioma

Architecture Department
Federal University of Technology, Minna.

Obi-George Lilian Chioma is an environmental architect, educator, and researcher. I completed my BSc Hons in Architecture with Second Class Upper Division and MSc in Architecture at Abia State University, Nigeria. Since my graduation, I have been involved in professional architectural services covering urban and architectural design and planning. Currently, I am working with the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria, as a teaching and research staff member. My job roles include teaching and research, which has allowed me constant engagement with conducting practical research in different areas, including actively engaging and publishing peer-reviewed academic journal articles on diverse aspects of the sustainable living environment. My teaching responsibilities include pastoral roles for students, such as serving as an academic adviser for four years in a row, and providing services to the department in various capacities, such as serving on the examination team. I have taught a range of modules, including architectural studio and other courses within a broad architecture curriculum, supervised several undergraduate students’ dissertations, taught postgraduate diplomas, and provided constructive feedback on students work.

Research Area

My research interest explores how poor housing design results in poor indoor environmental quality, which could trigger the transmission of certain outbreaks of infectious diseases. Residential building occupants, especially in developing countries, have long struggled with a number of public health issues. The majority are affected by building-related illnesses (BRI) due to inadequate housing quality, poor ventilation, and environmental deterioration. In addition, higher temperatures due to climate change exacerbate heat-related illnesses, making the indoor environment unsustainable for healthy living. Poor housing conditions have been linked with worse health outcomes and the spread of infectious diseases. Therefore, my research interest is to investigate residential housing quality with a view to developing a perfect built environment that will promote housing quality that promotes healthy living.
