Prof. Shittu had Doctor of Philosophy (2011) from University of Ilorin. Her research interest is on Prevention, control and treatment of Infectious diseases with application of Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and Nanotechnology. Her research has been supported by National and Institutional Tetfund Research Grant, 2014 (Institutional: Research area: Nanotechnology), Two grant (Institutional: Research area: Nanotechnology/drug delivery) 2015 and two grant (2020 and 2021 (National: Research area: Nanotechnology/Food Safety). Her research won 3rd Prize Award for Research and Development in Life Science at the 6th Nigerian Universities Research and Development Fair NURESDEF, 2016 and 2nd Prize Award for Oral Presentation for Capacity Building Workshop for Young Women Academics sponsored by United State Embassy in Nigeria. Shes has also received Educational Trust Fund fellowships 2009 for part of her PhD research work. she is a recipient Fulbright fellowship award 2017. She has involved in capacity building in field of bioinformatics in workshops including Capacity building workshop in bioinformatics (University of Ilorin, Nigeria), Nigerian Young Academy Workshop on Bioinformatics (Federal University of Technology). She has published in learned national and international journals and supervised undergraduate and post graduate students
Research Area
- The studies of molecular diversity and distribution of parasite vectors prevalent in Nigeria/Africa and document the factors that informs their distribution (Specialization: molecular biology and genomics)
- Application of computational biology for the parasite vectors profile of gene for resistance, survival and virulence (Bioinformatics, proteomics and translational biology).
- Screening and extracting the bioactive metabolite from plants/insect/insect products using standardize and improve advance technology (Medicinal Chemistry/Drug discovery).
- Safety evaluation of bioactive metabolite with proven therapeutic values
- Nanoformulation of bioactive metabolite with proven therapeutic values and on site analytical tool for detection (Nanotechnology)
- Mass- production and safety evaluation of Nanoformulated bioactive metabolite(Biotechnology, molecular biology).
- Computational biology studies of molecular mechanism of reaction of the product/ drug
